Faith is confidence and trust in who God is and what He says. Hebrews 11:1-3 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”
Therefore, faith is trust, assurance, belief and obedience to God’s instruction, knowing that all things come from Him. Also, faith is a key ingredient in pleasing God (Heb. 11:6). At the very crux of living a faith-filled life is to trust in the Lord, and trust is rooted in love.
Love is intimacy, passion, commitment, and sacrifice. All of these are important in building your faith as a believer.
What is Intimacy? It is deep closeness, connection, and familiarity between individuals. It goes beyond surface-level interaction and involves openness, trust, and vulnerability. In its purest form, intimacy means allowing someone to truly see you—your thoughts, emotions, fears, dreams, and weaknesses—without the fear of rejection.
There are two types of intimacy in the context of faith:
● Spiritual Intimacy (With God)
This is the deepest and most vital form of intimacy. Spiritual intimacy is about closeness to God—knowing Him personally, not just knowing about Him. It’s marked by communion with the Holy Spirit, a heart open to God’s Word, and a life yielded to His will. It is expressed through prayer, worship, obedience, quiet time, and the inner witness of the Holy Spirit.
● Emotional Intimacy (With God and People)
Emotional intimacy is about vulnerability, honesty, and connection at the heart level. With God, it means being real about how we feel—bringing our joys, struggles, and questions to Him without shame. With others, it means sharing our inner world in safe, godly relationships. It is expressed by pouring your heart out in prayer (like David did in the Psalms), expressing emotion in worship, engaging in godly friendships and mentorships.
Commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause or activity. It entails devotion, allegiance, and loyalty. Sacrifice to God is to give up something valuable to you to help another person. Service must stand side-by-side with your work. James 2:14:14 says, “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?”
Finally, your faith must be tied to obedience. Luke 6:46 reads, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
Conclusively, having faith is more than simply attending church. It requires you to believe in the saving grace of Jesus, to trust Him for everything, to serve Him with all your heart, and obey His Word. Also, you must know this: Your faith in God will be tested but you must count it all joy (James 1:2-4).
